Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Duxmore is home to three main farms and private residencies. As a family, we have farmed here since the 1960’s bringing many happy memories for the generations before us and our children now. We have many special memories here, from starting out on the farm as a young couple, getting married here, building a house and now living here with our young family. Constantly inspired by our breath-taking landscape, starting our botanical business here made perfect sense.
When I first met my husband 17 years ago, we started with just 10 acres and now farm over 350. We do our bit to ensure that we care for the environment that surrounds us, as we feel it is important to preserve the habitats here, but also allow for new. In the early days, we planted new hedging on the farm, which are beautifully established now, not only providing shelter to the animals on the farm, but also bring a bounty of berries for the birds and a safe habitat for all sorts of wildlife too. Looking back, it was one of many jobs we had to do at the time, including fencing the entire perimeter of the farm, and I do wonder if it was perhaps a test of my resilience!
We continue to grow and last year we have planted over 700 new hedging plants and trees and will continue to introduce more over time. Checking on trees I planted with my family 2 years ago, they are now 5ft tall, if not more!
By managing our woodland, we have seen an increase in wildflowers year-on-year. Each year something new pops up and last year we spotted our first wild garlic!
There is always so much to do, but we never settle and constantly review our options and new initiatives, to make positive improvements where we can.
