Pink Grapefruit - Your Summer Companion

Pink Grapefruit, or Citrus paradisi, is believed to be a hybrid between the sweet orange of Jamaica (Citrus sinensis) and Indonesian pomelo (Citrus maxima) which were introduced from Asia, which remains the main producer today, along with the USA and the Mediterranean with our oil coming from Italy.
Grapefruit trees have a vigorous appearance, growing from around 5 to 14 meters tall with dark, dense foliage. It is said that the fruit was originally named ‘Shaddock Fruit’ after the captain who introduced the fruit to the West Indies. Today, it’s believed that the name was inspired by the way it grows in clusters, similar to grapes.

The essential oil has been cherished for centuries for its uplifting and therapeutic properties. Initially used in traditional medicine, Pink Grapefruit essential oil has now found its way into modern aromatherapy and skincare, becoming a staple for those seeking natural wellness solutions…

The Art of Extraction
The warmer the region where the fruits are grown, the richer their flavour will be when harvested. Pink Grapefruit essential oil is extracted through a process called cold pressing. This method ensures that the oil retains its natural goodness without the need for high temperatures or chemical solvents.

  • Harvesting: Fresh grapefruits are harvested, usually by hand, to ensure they are at peak ripeness.
  • Peeling: The outer peel, or rind, is separated from the fruit. This rind is rich in oil glands that contain the essential oil.
  • Cold Pressing: The rind is mechanically pressed to release the oil. This process involves puncturing the peel and then pressing it to squeeze out the oil, which is then collected and filtered.

The result is a pure, high-quality essential oil that embodies the essence of Pink Grapefruit – bright, citrusy, and delightfully aromatic.

Best use
Pink Grapefruit essential oil is renowned for its energising properties and has a natural anti-depressant effect thanks to its bright, uplifting aroma which can help to stimulate the senses, enhance mood, and increase mental clarity.
Like its citrus counterparts, Pink Grapefruit has natural disinfectant and antiseptic properties and is a popular addition to home care and cleaning products due to its cleansing properties and, of course, its lovely fragrance!

Used cosmetically, Grapefruit Essential Oil is known to be cleansing, to help balance oily complexions and to help reduce the appearance of blemishes and acne by purifying and absorbing impurities. It is also widely used in massage to help aid lymphatic drainage
